How to Get Slime Out of Bed Sheets

As a mom, I have a love/hate relationship with slime. I love it because it is great for sensory play and provides tons of benefits! The squishy, stretchy texture is fantastic for helping little hands develop fine motor skills while keeping kids entertained for hours.

But we all know what happens during playtime… Slime somehow always finds itself somewhere it doesn’t belong. One minute it’s all fun and games, and the next, you’re scrambling to figure out how to save the brand new sheets you just bought.

If you’re a parent who has found yourself stuck in this sticky situation, you’re not alone! I’ve covered how to remove slime from blankets, how to get slime out of clothes, and even how to get slime out of hair yep, I’ve been there.

But today, I’m going over how to remove slime out of bed sheets. With the right technique and a little patience, you can remove slime from sheets without ruining them. Let’s dive in and tackle that slime stain together!

How to Get Slime Out of Bed Sheets: Tackle the Slime, Save the Sheets

Removing slime from anything can feel like a stressful task whether it’s a small spot or a big, slimy mess. I’ve had my fair share of slime mishaps, so I wanted to put together a list of easy, no-stress methods of removing slime from bed sheets so you don’t have to scour the ends of the internet to find them.

Plus, it always gives me peace of mind to follow advice from fellow parents who have been in similar situations, rather than relying on random cleaning hacks and hoping for the best.

Once you’ve tackled the slime, remember to follow up with a good-quality stain remover! Miss Mouth’s Stain Treater Spray is my top choice it works wonders and makes removing stains a breeze.

I’ve said it once, and I’ll say it again white vinegar is unmatched for breaking down slime, no matter what it’s stuck to! The acidity in the solution eats through the slime, so rinsing and washing the rest away is a breeze.

  • Apply the baking soda: Start by sprinkling baking soda directly onto the stained area. Don’t be afraid to be generous with this step; you’ll want enough baking soda to form a paste.

  • Add white vinegar: Pour the white vinegar directly over the baking soda. Don’t worry once it starts fizzing; that’s the fun part!

  • Let it soak: Let it sit on the slime for a few minutes until the fizzing stops and a paste has formed.

  • Scrub the area: At this point, the slime should break down and be much easier to clean. Use a soft-bristled brush to gently scrub away the excess slime, and you’re good to go!

  • Dilute the vinegar: To remove some of that acidity from the white vinegar, dilute it by adding an equal amount of warm water.

  • Apply the mixture to the stain: You can either pour the vinegar and water directly onto the stain or put it into a spray bottle for convenience.

  • Let it sit: Let the vinegar and water sit on the stain for 10-30 minutes so it has enough time to loosen the slime.

  • Scrub the area: Once the mixture has sat long enough, gently scrub the area with a cloth. If the cloth isn’t doing the trick, feel free to scrape the remaining dried slime with a butter knife. Now, simply toss the sheets into the laundry and clean as usual!

  • Mix the solution: Combine equal parts warm water and white vinegar in a spray bottle or bowl, and then add a couple of drops of dish soap

  • Apply the mixture and let it soak: Spray or pour the mixture onto the slime and let the solution sit for 10-15 minutes.

  • Scrub the area: Because dish soap and vinegar are both naturally cleaning products, they’re super effective when combined! The vinegar breaks down the slime, and the dish soap helps create a sudsy base. Gently scrub the area to remove any remaining residue.

  • Rinse and wash: Once you’ve cleaned as much as possible, rinse your sheets and throw them into the washer!

If you’re looking for a more gentle cleaning method, there are tons of ways to remove slime without vinegar. These methods are best for bed sheets that are delicate or color-sensitive, helping to prevent fabric damage or color fading.

How to Get Slime Out of Bed Sheets With The Scrape and Freeze Method

  • Get off as much as possible: Before you soak the bed sheets, use a credit card or butter knife to scrape off as much of the slime as possible.

  • Soak the stained area: While you can soak your sheets in cold water, I recommend using ice cubes or an ice pack! The ice will freeze the slime, so rather than dealing with something sticky and gooey, you’re now dealing with something hard, brittle, and easier to remove.

  • Let it sit: Let the ice sit on the area just long enough to freeze the slime. You don’t want it to melt entirely; otherwise, the slime will just become gooey again.

  • Scrape off the remaining slime: Once you remove the ice, you’ll notice it’s much easier to lift the slime when it’s frozen. Scrub away whatever is left, and then wash as usual!

How to Get Slime Out of Bed Sheets With Dish Soap and Water

  • Apply the dish soap: Rub a few drops of dish soap onto your stain until it gets mildly soapy.

  • Let it sit: Rather than immediately scrubbing, let the dish soap sit for 10-15 minutes. This gives the soap enough time to break down the sticky ingredients in the slime, making it easier to scrub away.

  • Add water: While not always necessary, you can add a little water to the area and use a soft-bristled brush to scrub any harder-to-remove slime spots.

  • Rinse as usual: Rinse the area with warm or cool water, and then wash the sheets to remove any excess slime and soap.

  • Apply lemon juice: Apply a small amount of lemon juice to your slime stain. If it’s fresh lemon juice, feel free to dilute it with a small amount of water to remove some of the acidity.

  • Add baking soda: Right after applying your lemon juice, sprinkle baking soda on top. After a few seconds, the mixture should begin to bubble and fizz.

  • Let it sit and then scrub: Let the lemon juice and baking soda sit until they’re finished fizzing, and then gently scrub it with a soft-bristled brush.

  • Wash as usual: Repeat this process as many times as necessary, and then throw the sheets into the washer when you’re done!
